Blacksheep Beautiful is Kari Faherty, a synesthesia artist currently based near Washington, D.C.
Kari is often asked, “When did you realize you had synesthesia?” She always answers, “When did you realize you could smell?” Her experience has always beenwith her, but she learned it had a name while in college.
She lives in a tiny house with her family, working from her at-home studio. She began painting her synesthesia experience several years ago, and found that her art spoke deeply to the need we all have to preserve our memories. Now she creates art that captures people’s stories in a way that is completely different from words, photography, or videography. Her paintings give collectors a chance to live among their memories and retell their stories every time someone comments on her art.
