Three weeks ago we took my visiting parents to one of our favorite spots in DC: Cady’s Alley in Georgetown. As we made our way there, a serendipitous meeting occurred between myself and a man handing out doughnuts from a new shop on the Alley. “Doughnuts, coffee, and art!” he said. Of course I went to check it out immediately.
Bright white walls. Pops of teal color in just the right places. A greeting when I walked in. Beautiful abstract art on display in the back. They were brewing Compass Coffee, a local roaster that I love. They were located in Cady’s Alley, a very special place to my family. Besides the fact that I felt like I was in my own home, I felt like we might make a good team.
End of the story: the team at District Doughnut thought so too. This morning I installed seven original pieces of art in the District Doughnut popup in Cady’s Alley. These are synesthesia pieces, all depicting noise in Washington DC. Fountains. Traffic. Jets. Street Musicians. Fireworks. This is the District in a way you’ve never seen it before. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, you’ll love this view. And if you REALLY love this view, own it – all pieces are for sale.
The shop is located at 3327 Cady’s Alley NW, Washington DC 20007. Stop by! But make sure you’re ready for awesome coffee and the best doughnuts in DC. And take a friend – this team isn’t merely building a shop, but a gathering place.
Snap a picture of you and your favorite piece! Post it to Instagram and tag @blacksheepbeautiful and #bababeautiful. Can’t wait to see which you like best.
And make sure to get in on District Doughnut’s #doughface fun, too!
Thank you Will and Greg, and everyone at District Doughnut! You’ve created a real community spot. I can’t wait to see what comes of it, and am honored to be a part of it.
